Re-certification of Diplomates

Re-certification (re-validation) ensures that ECAR Diplomates continue to meet the standards of the College and maintain their active specialist status.

Who Needs to Re-Certify?

All active Diplomates of ECAR must periodically demonstrate that they:

  • Continue to work in animal reproduction at a specialist level.

  • Contribute to the advancement of the field.

Criteria for Re-Certification

Diplomates must provide evidence that they:

  • Are engaged in clinical, academic, or research work in animal reproduction.

  • Are publishing, teaching, or otherwise contributing to the discipline.

  • Fulfill ECAR-defined requirements, which may include:

    • Continuing education

    • Conference attendance

    • Publications

    • Resident supervision

    • Committee work

The specific criteria are defined by the Board of the College and reviewed regularly.

Timeframe

  • Re-certification is done at regular intervals, i.e., every 5 years.

  • Diplomates must stay compliant to retain active status and the title of European Specialist in Animal Reproduction.

What Happens if Criteria Are Not Met?

  • Diplomates are typically given one additional year to fulfill requirements.

  • If still non-compliant, the Diplomate may be reclassified as:

    a) Non-Practicing Diplomate

    • For those who stop working in the field or don’t meet re-certification standards.

    • May not vote, serve on committees, or use the EBVS title of Specialist.

    b) Retired Diplomate

    • Voluntary or post-retirement.

    • May vote, but may not serve on the Board or use the EBVS title.

Returning to Active Status

  • Non-practicing Diplomates can apply to regain active status from the Education and Residency Committee (ERC).

  • Application is reviewed by the ERC, which may recommend:

    • Reinstatement

    • Rejection

    • Additional requirements (based on the time away from the field)

  • In order to do this please email the ERC chair; erc@ecarcollege.org.

Who Oversees Re-Certification?

  • The Board of the College acts as the Re-certification Body.

  • The Board is supported by the Education and Residency Committee in overseeing this task.

In compliance with B.3. of the Policies and Procedures of the European Board of Veterinary Specialization (EBVS), the European College of Animal Reproduction has established a system for regular re-certification of practicing Diplomates. Every five years, practicing Diplomates must provide evidence for their involvement both in the area of domestic animal reproduction and in the activities of ECAR during the preceding five years. They have to accumulate a minimum total of 100 credit points by participation in areas of research, educational or service activities. The credits have to be collected in at least 2 of these 3 activities, in various categories, as detailed within the attached excel. No credit points can be granted for education or training in non-scientific or non-evidence-based practice.

This excel must be completed so that you obtain a minimum of 100 points over a 5 year period. The excel must be uploaded via the members' area of this website and this is where the ERC will review and validate the submission. Please do not email it to the ERC chair as it will not be reviewed or kept on your record.

Currently, the online system requires two referees (name and email) to attest that your submission is truthful and that you are still conducting clinical work in the area of animal reproduction.

Any further questions should be directed at the ERC chair at; erc@ecarcollege.org
