Re-certification (re-validation) ensures that ECAR Diplomates continue to meet the standards of the College and maintain their active specialist status.
Who Needs to Re-Certify?
All active Diplomates of ECAR must periodically demonstrate that they:

Continue to work in animal reproduction at a specialist level.

Contribute to the advancement of the field.
Criteria for Re-Certification
Diplomates must provide evidence that they:

Are engaged in clinical, academic, or research work in animal reproduction.

Are publishing, teaching, or otherwise contributing to the discipline.

Fulfill ECAR-defined requirements, which may include:

Continuing education

Conference attendance
-
Publications
-
Resident supervision
-
Committee work

The specific criteria are defined by the Board of the College and reviewed regularly.
Timeframe

Re-certification is done at regular intervals, i.e., every 5 years.

Diplomates must stay compliant to retain active status and the title of European Specialist in Animal Reproduction.
What Happens if Criteria Are Not Met?

Diplomates are typically given one additional year to fulfill requirements.

If still non-compliant, the Diplomate may be reclassified as:
a) Non-Practicing Diplomate

For those who stop working in the field or don’t meet re-certification standards.

May not vote, serve on committees, or use the EBVS title of Specialist.
b) Retired Diplomate

Voluntary or post-retirement.

May vote, but may not serve on the Board or use the EBVS title.

Returning to Active Status

Non-practicing Diplomates can apply to regain active status.

Application is reviewed by the Education and Residency Committee, which may recommend:
